• Logistics importance/relevance, definition, logistics trends, logistics strategies – cost and service aspects, logistics considerations based on nature of product and product characteristics, logistics integration with other functions, key logistics stakeholders (shippers, carriers, freight forwarders, government) and their roles, different kinds of logistics networks, logistics risk and their management, logistics performance measures and information/information technology perspectives in logistics
• Road, air, sea and intermodal freight: each’s applicability, advantages, disadvantages, operating characteristics, key stakeholders, factors affecting cost and pricing, shipper and carrier perspectives, details of the infrastructure involved and operations (ports, rail interchanges, airports), outsourcing of transportation (3PL and 4PL), role of Transportation management system
• Incoterms and contractual obligations with international shipping; customs tariffs, processes, procedures and insurance, import, export bonding procedures, freight forwarding contracts of carriage, documentation, and certification; International trade facilitation, treaties, finance and settlement
• Different warehouse types based on usage, centre of gravity and qualitative considerations in warehouse location, warehouse capacity – economy of scale issues, seasonality issues, sharing/outsourcing, L, I and U shape warehouse designs and their appropriateness, different storage rack choices and their advantages and disadvantages and when to use, different kinds of material handling equipment (manual and automated) and when to use each

Assessment

These credentials are considered vocational since they can help a learner advance their career. Each unit will be evaluated using activities that, whenever possible, will be structured in a way to make them genuine “work-related” tasks in order to satisfy the goal of providing an appropriate evaluation technique. Students will need to demonstrate their understanding, knowledge, and skills. Where suitable for the lesson, learners will also be expected to provide original ideas, solve problems, and make recommendations for actions. A level of intellectual rigor relevant to the qualification will be anticipated.

For each of the learning objectives for the specific unit, there will be a question strand in the assignment. Both the LO (learning outcome) and AC (assessment criteria) requirements will be met by the assignment activities. Learners will always be expected to interact with significant and pertinent theory that supports the topic area inside assignments.

Learners will be required to use examples from actual organizations to illustrate their responses to the assignment questions. Centers are required to make sure that they include case studies of pertinent organizations and, whenever possible, facilitate in-company opportunities for learners to carry out research and investigation projects and/or support the organization with various tasks in order to support this activity during the learning program. It will be wonderful if mature and part-time students may also draw upon their own professional expertise.

Delivery

The unit should be taught in a flexible manner in both the classroom and the guidance program. Formal instruction sessions, whether in-person or online, will outline some of the necessary, theoretical material. This will make it easier for students to conduct independent research or group research on the subject.

Case studies, simulations, exercises, individual and group research, and debate are common and interesting approaches to learn about a topic. Students will probably use tutor- and self-directed learning while also considering their past knowledge and skills.

Many sources, including enterprises, the World Wide Web, broadcasts on television and radio, broadsheet newspapers, and advice services, provide current information and materials.

Awards

A Distinction may be given when a candidate receives an overall average mark of at least 70% throughout all of the units, though giving such a grade to specific candidates is up to the examiner’s discretion and is typically not done following any successful referral efforts.
